How to get to Rosas?

Of course you could look on Google Maps, but as an alternative, I can show an itinerary, with pictures and difficult points to pass.

It’s better to take the motorway (or Highway, if you want!). Why?

- Because, it’s the last part of your trip, you will be certainly happy, to arrive, especially if you come from far away.

- But above all, if you take “la Nationale” (the main road), you will go through Le Boulou, where there is always some traffic jam. But after, you’ll go trough Le Perthus in which there is always, a BIG TRAFFIC JAM, because of the fact that, the main street, in which we pass, is full of crowded shops and stores! It’s not over yet!  In La Jonquera there is a possibility of a traffic jam, too! Except if you’re traveling at night, when shops and stores are closed, don’t take La Nationale. If you didn’t take the motorway, there are no exits until La Jonquera.

A little hint for the return journey: trucks (except on special permission) don’t the have right to go in France from Saturday (10 pm) to Sunday (10 pm).

So trucks that can’t get to France, gather at La Jonquera, and they wait at the border, just before (10 pm), they start to get ready. It’s pretty impressing! It is recommend to do not cross the border, Sunday night, because of the huge number of trucks!

SPEED RADAR warning: there is one, in the way Spain-France way (when you are in Spain, and you get back to France), just after the border, from the downhill with a 110 km/h sign (which is not very visible) to the toll booth (279 to 272 km marker), and there is a speed radar the “Viaduc de Rome” (meaning Rome viaduct). Still, watch out for police that may be controlling cars.

In both ways, the speed limit is 100 km/h from the border to the La Jonquera tollbooth.

On La Nationale 9 (road 9), there is some speed radar (a minimum of three) in the 66 department, in France (just after the Spanish border). Watch out!

Here is the itinerary, to get to Rosas

Take, from France, the A9 motorway, it is called La Catalane.

Take the exit 3 (in Catalan: salida 3), which is around 20th km marker.

All is written in Catalan. Rosas means “Roses”. Everybody there speaks Catalan and/or Spanish. Many people understand or speak French. The Spanish are very nice people.

 Here take exit 3

iti

After the tollbooth, there is a rotary.

iti   Go nearly all around the rotary, and follow: N11

N11
FIGUERES
GIRONA
BARCELONA
ROSES-LLANCA
OLOT-RIPOLL

ii

.

50 meters after the rotary, take the N11 on the left.

iti

Stop following the direction of Figueras, instead take the direction of :

GIRONA
BARCELONA
LLANSA
ROSES
LA BISBAL

iti

Still on the N11, about 4 Km later, after the 755-km marker, take that direction:

FIGUERES
ROSES

Here it’s not easy, because you must stay on the right lane of the exit, above all stop continuing in the direction of Figueras, continue and take the direction of Rosas on the other side of the bridge.

iti

In Spain, slips roads are not like French ones.

First, you might notice they are short! Watch out!

In Spain, slips roads are not like French ones.

First, you might notice they are short! Watch out!

But, when it comes to slips roads like that one: with a large curve that turns to the right, you must take the habit to anticipate the traffic and to look before the end of the slip road, the lane you end at. With that habit, it’s more practical!

On the other hand, you must turn a lot your head, or stop to see if a car is coming.

You will be at the end of Figueras at Vilatenim, then you will go in Valasacra.

carrefour

Then you will be on the C 260, 2-lanes, each direction, road that will lead you to Rosas driving straight on. You will go through by Villasacra and Vilatenim, near Castello d'Empuries and by Empuriabrava.

Here it’s the “the Nou shopping Centre”, at the end of Figueras.

To go to Rosas, continue straight on.

NB. Just before, you have two stores (Aki, and other one), a “Decathlon” store, and a hotel.

In this shopping centre, there a “Carrefour” store (its prices are lower than the one in Rosas!), with a great range of products, a cafeteria, a café, a “Monsieur Bricolage” store, a butcher’s shop, an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM), newspaper shop, 2 shoes shops, and others shops. The shopping center’s schedule opens Monday-Saturday, from 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM.

iti

Here you arrive to Empuriabrava, you must go straight on!

iti

Don’t be surprised if you see planes that seem to land on the road, it’s because of the airport, which is not far away!

Because of that you might see some group of parachutists.

But still, keep watching the road don’t be distracted!

If you’re tempted by that activity, go see the link: “leisure”, and then click on “sport”.

 Some advices:

 - If you make a mistake, you can always turn back on the next rotary.

 - The direction to Rosas is indicated on many signs due to the fact that Rosas is the second largest city in that region, after Figueras.

 - In Rosas there are a lot of do-not-enter signs, here, a map of Rosas

 - You can go see the link: “information”, to get more information.
